  • Welcome to the Microbiology Course!


    In this course, you'll be introduced to the fascinating world of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. We’ll explore the incredible diversity of these tiny life forms and understand their importance in both the environment and human health.

    Through this journey, you’ll discover how microbiology relates to real-life situations like food safety, infections, and common illnesses, helping you make informed decisions when faced with microbiology in your daily life.

    1.1 Course Learning Outcomes

    i.   Identify the characteristics of various microorganisms, including microbial structure, growth, pathogenicity, and common diseases caused by microorganisms.                                                          
    ii. Explain infection prevention measures and immune response mechanisms in controlling infectious diseases.     
                            

    iii. Discuss basic microbiological concepts related to infectious diseases, including causes, modes of transmission, and prevention strategies.                                                                            

    1.2 Course Assessment

    1.2.1 Continuous Assessment

    Test 1 = 15% 

    Test 2 = 15%

    Online Forum Discussion = 10%.  (The deadline for completing the discussion is 2026. Please refer to the attached document for detailed guidelines and the marking criteria.)

    Presentation = 10%  (Presentations will be conducted between Week . Please refer to the attached document for detailed presentation guidelines and evaluation criteria.)

    Assignment = 10% (The completed assignment must be submitted by  2026. Please refer to the attached document for detailed instructions and marking criteria.)

    1.2.2 Final Assessment

    Final Examination = 40%

    The examination period is scheduled from 19 October 2026 to 30 October 2026.
